Hey readers! If you’ve been following along thus far you know I’ve been pursuing my undergrad in Community Development and Policy Studies (Political Science) with a minor in Communications. You also probably know that I burn the candle at both ends working often over 35 hours a week plus school to pay the bills and establish my brand so that I can create content for the rest of my life. That being said; I’ve recently had to grapple with some tough decisions and I thought that just maybe, if you were in a similar position and needed a push in the right direction, my story could help.
To give you some context dear reader – my whole life I have held myself to these obscene standards. By no fault of my parents, friends, other family members or teachers, I’ve always had these high expectations of myself. In reality, I’m my biggest critic. I’ve always had to be near the top of my class, my marks had to be at least in the 80’s for me to be happy, I had to be working and I could not disappoint anybody..at all. With the passing of Carrie Fisher and George Michael to round out the turbulent 2016, we can all agree that it has been a year full of sadness. The phrase “Fuck 2016” and “blame it on 2016” has whispered past my own lips as well as the corridors of my school. I used chalk my personal bad luck and sadness to the way the cards have been dealt for me this year. However, with 2017 looming overhead, I have been looking back on all the ups and downs of the last year. In retrospective, I find myself being extremely hard on 2016 Rebecca.
