As soon as pumpkin spice lattes are put on the menu I’m calling it – it’s fall! The time when you freeze in the morning and resent the long sleeves you’re wearing in the late afternoon (at least until the leaves change and it’s constantly cooler). This years runways, fashion icons and store fronts bring about many trends you should definitely keep your eye on.
Let’s kick it off with this years peacoat- the duster coat! Sure, we could call it the flasher coat but I like the term duster coat better for obvious reasons! They aren’t just in the conventional beige or black coats either! I just bought a black one from Dynamite that I cannot wait to wear, but there was a pale pink coat as well which I thought would have been a unique pick! I’ve seen the pumpkin orange colour, army greens, creams – you have a lot of choice here so don’t feel confined to the traditional neutrals! Pair this oversized coat with cropped jeans, booties and a burnout T and bam – instant hipster subculture chic!
I love these too; a skirt with buttons up the front instead of the zipper. I still feel a bit rebellious with the buttons in the front but a little bit safer about my skirt not opening in front than I do about the zipper front. I like to wear a bodycon dress under my skirt too just incase I bend and the snap buttons open so if you are looking for extra caution there’s an option for you! (Do not think this won’t happen – I dropped my cellphone in the office and when I squatted to pick it up three buttons popped open! I was mortified even though no one saw). This is another item that I’ve seen in a variety of colours and fabrics – my personal favourite would probably be the imitation velvet ones because that fabric just screams cool weather to me!
I am seeing high necklines everywhere. I mean if you are not completely down to hop on the turtle neck train there are necklines that are slightly lower than the turtle neck but higher than a crew neck so don’t panic if you still associate turtle necks with ugly christmas sweaters from the 90’s. Pick yourself up one, toss on a chunky necklace with the high neckline and you are good to go! What I see and love even more is the shift of fabric from the bottom of the shirt to the top in the cases of turtle neck crop tops! It’s unconventional I guess – turtlenecks are made to cover more of you but you are showing less with the cropped hemlines. I always feel rather edgy when I wear these!
Matte Berry Lips
And finally, it’s that time again – bring on the rich purple lipsticks but this year let’s make it matte! I was in love with my Bite Matte Creme crayon in Aubergine last fall season and I am more than excited to find my new purple/maroon shade for this season! Last year matte was just becoming a thing but not we are in full swing and you can find matte lipsticks everywhere whether you want to go high-end or browse your local drugstore! And now is the appropriate time to wear purples it is a prime time to get your hands on a bold matte colour!
